Professional Summary

Since the mid 1980s Cor Fuhler (1964) is a Dutch/Australian active composer, multi instrumentalist, improviser, instrument builder, artist and inventor whose practice is an interdisciplinary one crossing into installation, dance, puppetry, comic strip, music theatre and site-specific performance.

 His work has taken him on numerous tours around Europe, Canada, the USA, Indonesia, Japan, Brazil, Australia and New Zealand, and his recordings are released internationally. He was the director of the Corkestra, co-director of Doek-foundation, co-curator of the electronic music series ‘Kraakgeluiden’, chairman of the Dutch Improvisers Union and board member of the Dutch Arts Council.

 Cor is a conservatorium trained pianist, guitarist and experimental electronics player as well as a sound artist, and is recognized as one of the world’s foremost authorities on extended piano techniques. His work has been shown in Muziekgebouw (Amsterdam 2005), Holland Festival (2003, 2006) the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam (various 1990 - 2000), Qwartz (Paris 2009), Serpentine Gallery (London 2003), Huis a/d Werf (Utrecht 1999) and festivals world wide.

 In 2010, Cor relocated to Australia and is now an active researcher with interests in the relationship improvisation-composition, compositional multiplicity, corporeal kinetic installations, altered pianos, Fluxus, magic and mystery in music, acoustic ecology, music & health, and the music of Sun Ra.

 Recently, Cor has composed for Ensemble Offspring, Anna McMichael - Zubin Kanga/Tamara Anna Cislowka (violin - piano), his own jazz quartet ‘Jump’, and the Splinter Orchestra. His works have been performed at Bendigo International Festival of Exploratory music, Port Fairy Spring Music Festival, Peninsula Summer Music Festival, Tyalgum Music Festival, MONA FOMA, Tectonics Adelaide (Adelaide Festival of Arts), NOWnow Festival 2016, and Melbourne International Jazz Festival.
